For our first blog post, we will introduce what Sheaves AI is all about. Sheaves AI is a general-purpose AI and Robotics startup focused on guiding the development of artificial intelligence in a more responsible and socially beneficial direction. The central problem our company addresses is the negative trajectory that current AI development is undergoing to deploy and build technology without proper oversight and meaningful input from the broader public.

Our startup was founded in San Francisco, CA — a world-renowned center of rapid technological development. In saying this, Silicon Valley moves very fast due to tech development, creating enormous financial growth. Over there, speed is a priority, thus creating an urgent need for raising capital (mainly through investments from Venture Capital firms). One of the most famous examples of fast growth is Google, Inc. The founders were able to receive investment from the world-renowned VC firm, Sequoia Capital. An example of slower growth could possibly be Amazon, Inc., where Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is known for having taken several meetings over a longer period of time to raise capital.

Those are companies that were once tech startups in the 1990s. We are now in the mid-2020’s, and those two companies are large enterprises. For the startup today, money/markets has moved even faster than when those two companies were first getting started. This rapid speed has been well-studied for having adverse effects on our personal lives and society at large.

As a tech startup, Sheaves AI is aware that it must grow, but our philosophy is to take a more holistic, measured approach for growth–the kind that takes into consideration technological implications toward personal and community development. Besides, what role should something like the internet and AI be ultimately used for? As we see it, both entities should be a tool where logistical problems are mitigated and access to helpful knowledge is accessible.

And that is what Sheaves is about: positive AI development defined in terms of human basic needs, supporting psychological well-being, and improving safety. In other words, ensuring technology serves the broader public good.
